Spork and Sword is going to be about all the different types of TV shows and movies that I watch. As well as anything else that peaks my interest.

Finally got to see this today! For anyone who likes movies set in the 60s this one is for you for sure, plus it gives a different perspective about the 60s than just the American one we see so much. If you don’t, then I would still say you should watch just for Chris O’Dowd!

mad men: because it’s my job…

A video of this scene needs to get posted!

Actually, I’m from Mars. It’s fine if you don’t believe me, but that’s where I’m from. I’m a full-blooded martian. Don’t worry, there’s no plot to take over Earth. We’re just displaced. I can tell you don’t believe me. That’s okay. We’re a big secret; they even tried to hide it from me. That man— my father —told me a story I was born in a concentration camp, but you know that’s impossible. And I never met my mother because she supposedly died there. That’s convenient. Next thing I know, Morris there finds me in a swedish orphanage. I was five. I remember it. And then I got this one communication, a simple order. Stay where you are.

42nd Street Trailer (1933) (by Victoria Mentz)

I just watched this movie and for anyone who loves classic movies then I would recommend this one. It is a great ensemble movie probably before that was even a thing. It also gets to be a musical without being a full-on musical as it is about the creation of a Broadway musical.

This year’s season finale was centered around the relationships rather than some dramatic event. Yes Seattle was in the midst of a superstorm causing a power outage at the hospital and then a bus flipped over right in front of them but it was where near as dramatic as say a plane crash or gunman roaming the halls. This allowed Shonda to focus on the relationships that have been developed this season and previous seasons.

The MerDer baby was born and like most things in their life so far it was complicated and life-threatening and like most other life-threatening events in their lives they survive. This time they get to welcome a baby boy named Bailey as Bailey was the once who saved Meredith’s life. We also got to see Ross shine with a mention from Brooks so maybe general surgey will end up being his thing.

Christina now/again fully realizing how important children are to Owen pushes him on this issue which he tries denying but Christina knows him too well and ends things before he can resent her. It will be interesting to see where they go from here as they clearly love each other so much but have this fundamental difference in what they want. I mean really, are they going to continue working together but not be together and then watch each other date other people? I don’t even know what types of characters could be written that the audience will take seriously and support for these two to be with instead of each other.

Arizona is immediately ashamed of what she did with Lauren and initially dismisses that they need her help in the NICU. Arizona tells Alex what happens and they just compare how each of them is the most horrible person. Arizona and Lauren manage to not actually be alone together until right when the power comes on and Callie walks in. Noticing Lauren’s scrub shirt is actually Arizona’s as it has her wedding ring pinned to it (something Callie suggests April does with her newly acquired engagement ring at the start of the episode) and puts two and two together. This leads to one of the most intense couple fights Grey’s has ever had. Arizona commenting/yelling that Callie was not on the plane but pretends that she was and recounts some of what she had to endure during the crash, much like Christina’s monologue to Owen earlier in the season only at a louder volume and out of anger. Callie ultimately resolves that she did lose something in the plane crash, Arizona.

In happier couple news, Alex finally tells Jo how he feels, with a little encouragement from Arizona. They are so perfect for each that Jo didn’t want him to tell her because she ruins everything good, which is also why he was unsure about telling her because he also ruins whomever he loves, so he thinks. Of course, he does tell her to shut up, he loves her and then they make-out a little.

The only coupledom that we are left not knowing where they stand going into next season is Japril. They, along with Matthew whose rig got stuck in a river that used to be a street, Callie, Owen, and at the beginning Bailey, are the ones involved in the bus crash storyline. I wish we got to see April being badass about organizing the ER for all these traumas then we got to but I guess they were focused on things happening else where in the hospital. However, Jackson notices the shoe of a little girls whose mother he and Owen un-trapped from the bus and tries to find before the bus explodes. April tries to run to find him but is stopped by Matthew and then *BOOM* giant explosion and April freaking out but out of the flames comes Jackson wit the little girl. While Jackson is having his injuries attended to April storms up to him and being hitting him yelling how he could have died, etc. Clearly Callie has/had no idea about their involvement other being than friends and I’m pretty sure Matthew has put it together based on the look on his face when April walks past him. April having collected herself sees Jackson again and says she wants him, he continually counters with “you’re getting married” after everything she says until she responds with “unless you give me a reason not to.” I see this playing out that Jackson will doubt himself and tell her to be happy with Matthew and that he is a good man, or something like that, so she’ll stay with him and plan a wedding and as the plans go along Jackson will grow more ansty until he has to do something. And then depending where next season picks up, Debbie Allen could be making a return (allow I’m sure she would have been anyways at some point) and it will be interesting to see what advice she gives Jackson or if he will even tell her about April as she doesn’t yet know (at least not that we know of) because she will be super happy for April as she always taken a keen interest in her love life so now that she’s engaged and if she remains engaged that will be an interesting and fun point of view for us to see.

The final relationship is Bailey and Webber. Bailey is still insecure about going back into the OR and really even just touching patients and Webber is forced to take over her surgery since she can’t even start it. This leads to him and her husbands discussing what they have been doing to try and help her. But the only thing that can is being forced back into the OR in order to save Meredith. Following the surgery she goes to try and find Webber to apologize for their fight not knowing what we as an audience are then shown, that Webber was electrocuted turning the power back on since Frank had a heart attack and was unable to. As much as I will miss Webber, I do think it was time for him to go and really the only way to get rid of Webber at this point was to kill him. But his wife as died, he had a parental feeling for Meredith but she, along with all the original interns (well the three that have managed to stay alive, RIP George still) have grown and are now the teachers to new interns.

I just want to point out two things from this episode. I’ll probably end up flip-flopping every episode about Bob Bensen but this episode he seemed to be just a nice guy trying to help Joan. So now I’m left wondering if he actually is just that and because practically every character with the exception of Peggy, Megan, Stan and Ginsberg, this season version of Ted and Ken who hardly gets screen time, always has a secret agenda. Therefore we have come to expect that of everyone else in this world. When ever someone is introduced we automatically assume they are working some sort of angle.

The other thing is about Ted. I just wanted to point out that when he was providing Don with his Gilligan’s Island formula you could tell he likes Mary-Ann over Ginger, which also makes sense for why he likes Peggy.

The season 8 finale of Supernatural left everyone in a state of uncertainty, including me with my opinion of the episode. Well that’s a bit of a lie as I’m a bit disappointed with this episode.

The best scene was by far Sam telling Dean his confession which left a tear in my eye and magnified what went wrong with this finale. There was not enough Sam and Dean together. Those are always the best season finales. I understand that they wanted Dean to be away from Sam when he learned that Sam wouldn’t make it once the trials were complete (which Dean basically put together anyways) in order to have the deja vu of season 4 finale’s “Sammy stop!” grand entrance but it really took away from the episode.

Without the final “sacrifice’ being made to close the gates of hell we get a finale where one of the Winchesters doesn’t end up dead! Yay! However Sam is now in this bizarro state where the trials have left him weakened and changed on a molecular level without actually having completed the change, so who knows what this entails for him. He did seem to be in-tune with the spell Metatron cast to expels the angels as he was getting a major headache before Dean saw the angels falling.

And to this point it was a little weird for Dean and Castiel to be paired up together all of a sudden, even if Sam did push them together. But now thanks to Metatron, Castiel is a fallen angel without his grace and all the other angels have been expelled from heaven. Seriously God needs to make an appearance sometime soon!

It will be interesting to see where Crowley goes from here, afterall he is now and almost cured demon. So since the ritual was not finished will he eventually go back to being a full demon? Or will he just continue to be broken? Just as long as he still calls Sam Moose though. And we cannot forget the Abaddon is still flying around somewhere out there.

We also cannot forget about poor poor Kevin he just wants to go be an Ivy League Mathlete and can’t. I’m going to assume that everything was bugging out in the Winchester’s layer because of the falling angels and not some other force, like Abaddon.

For anyone who looks at spoilers/casting announcements the ending for at least Cece’s wedding could have been predicted based on the title of this episode and the casting of Taylor Swift for the season finale. So Cece not getting married was pretty predictable and that it would be amicable. But I was a little surprised with Cece calling it off for Schmidt I thought it would be her just not being in love and then Elaine would be there too. But now Schmidt is faced with the decision for which girl does he choose. I think him and Cece will eventually end up together but I really love Elisabeth too and the fact that she remembers all these things about Schmidt is also really adorable. Of course Schmidt runs away…literally…in order to avoid this decision. This is also something Nick is known for, I’m almost surprised how I/they have not picked up on this. Remember last season’s finale when Schmidt ends things with Cece before he has the chance to screw it up and she realizes he’s a loser that is exactly what Nick was afraid off tonight. So who do you think Schmidt will choose for as of right now?

Now back to Nick he is actually making an effort and trying not to be the guy Bob (and possibly Jess) thinks he is. He tries as best he can to prevent the wedding sabotage to no avail and then just caught by Jess who thinks he was actually helping with it. Right after the scene when Nick decides to join in on the pranks I thought we would for sure get a scene with Schmidt and Winston saying the second sabotage is complete, or something, showing us that they also planned to ruin Nick and Jess as they attempted to do that on their first date. However, surprisingly it is Schmidt who turns to Jess for help once he realizes that it has gone to far once Nick got involved. This informs Jess that he was actually trying to stop it.

Following a debacle in the air ducts and a loose badger Nick and Jess have a mini heart-to-heart of how yes a small part of her is afraid he will screw things up but before she can finish her “but” portion of the convo they fall directing on the alter. Nick catches Bob’s disapproving eye before he and Schmidt try to capture the badger, leaving Winston to have deep conversation by himself/provide the birds eye view to find the badger.

The look from Bob is enough to make Nick “call it” before he screws up his and Jess’ relationship leaving it so they got one night together. Jess hesitantly agrees after Nicks adds on “its not like we are in love” even though they both clearly are.

Winston manages to escape from the air ducts and gives Nick a bit of a pep talk as it would appear he is finally a Nick and Jess shipper. He also comments that he is acting like his dad, which got to me as Winston idolized Nick’s dad so the fact Winston can see that makes Nick realize he needs to go after Jess.

He didn’t need to go to far as she was waiting outside and declares she wants to “un-call it” and give them a shot at whatever it is they have. Nick’s only response is to grab and kiss her and then drive them off into the moonlight.

Other than Winston’s talk with Nick at the end he was the main source of big comedy set-ups with his pranks.

Best threat: I will mess up your hair Schmidt! And then it happens.

I have mixed feelings about this episode, some I love some of the development that happened but was not crazy about some others…i.e. Arizona…so I’ll start with the ones I liked.

Alex and Jo were so great together this episode. Like Meredith said her kind of crazy fits Alex’s kind of crazy. And also as Cristina pointed out, Alex is suppose to be stupid anymore, which I am a big fan of. It took me a really long time, about 7 or 8 season for me to actually like Alex and now I completely love where is character is at and now he has finally found someone, once she realizes it, who is great for him.

Oh Japril, Japril, Japril, these two kids will definitely not be getting their act together before the finale of this season, which I’m okay with. April really has found the paper perfect guy for her and that proposal was pretty awesome but clearly they have unresolved feelings they need to discuss. I would also like to point out that I remembered Jackson telling Lexie that there is no such thing as “the one” which can also be used to explain his behaviour and the look on his face immediately following the proposal of him being almost happy for them.

And then there’s April by herself, we got an informed the her boards are approaching which she better pass this time. And then we saw her fight for what she wanted to get in on the Loen’s surgery however she was unable to fight hard enough to stay in, which we all now know why. I loved that we were kept in the dark as well and that the surprise wasn’t ruined for the audience, especially when webber yells at her that he’s got it and your like “What?!”. But I would also like to point out the Jackson was searching to tell her about his great accomplishment but instantly knew something was wrong.

Bailey is back!! Enough Said!

Now for the not so crazy about parts. I really am over Meredith and Derek so yes I was worried when she feel down the stairs but didn’t really care either because at this point of course something will go wrong for this couple, when doesn’t it?

Also, I don’t like Derek trying to change Brooks, so I was happy when he told her to “stay weird”, like really Derek not everyone is boring some people have more personality than others. I think if he watched Private Practice he would see that she is a little to his little sister Amelia.

The whole Owen adopting/fostering Ethan plot went a whole other way than expected. In my previous posts I fully expected him to want to do this, which he did, what I did not count on was Christina actually being able to wake up Ethan’s dad.

Now for the most frustrating storyline, Arizona cheating, really Arizona, really? After all the difficulty she has had with Callie and trying to feel “in the mood” she can suddenly sleep with this fly-by doctor? I am going to predict that obviously people, including Callie with find out and Arizona will try to explain it away as that she wouldn’t feel judged while sleeping with this new person who has only known her as this one way, with one leg, compared to also knowing what she was before the accident, or something like that. But what I just thought of is that it will also be interesting to see these two be forced to work together on the board now. Clearly it has been everyone vs. Jackson up until this point but I wonder if now one of them will side with him out of spite or if Arizona is just going to agree with whatever Callie thinks in hope to make amends.

Other random thoughts:
Loved Owen when he sees Murphy as if its totally normal

Loved Meredith and Christina being protective of Jo when Stephanie comes in basically because of Alex

I’m tired of hearing Ross complain about not being with Derek anymore

"The biggest oversight of the episode was Kurt and Blaine; they are arguably the biggest story arc on the series right now, and they had one scene together, during which they didn’t speak to each other or EVEN MAKE EYE CONTACT. The writers have mishandled Kurt’s side of their breakup so severely that as it stands, Kurt may be madly in love with Blaine and trying to come to terms with it, or he may be completely disinterested while Blaine is daydreaming about their wedding. We just don’t know. They’re telling half of a story, and they’re not even doing that well. This goes for all of the core couples that were broken up this season, really, but it’s most obvious with Kurt and Blaine."
